About Alison McInnes
Alison McInnes was elected to the Scottish Parliament on May 3rd 2007 as North East Scotland Regional MSP. She is the Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, and sits on three Scottish Parliament Cross Party Working Groups: Human Rights & Civil Liberties, Oil & Gas, and Funerals & Bereavement. Alison McInnes is an experienced and respected campaigner. A Councillor for 15 years, she has a track record as an effective politician who listens to the community and consistently delivers results. Alison and her husband Tom, both Scots, made the North East their home 24 years ago. Tom has a successful media production company. They have 2 grown-up children, Rachel and Lewis. Prior to her election to the Scottish Parliament, Alison McInnes was one of Aberdeenshire's most senior councillors. Alison has campaigned successfully for major infrastructure improvements and has many years of experience in lobbying for the region's needs in Edinburgh, London and Brussels. She chaired Nestrans - the Regional Transport Partnership for North East Scotland. She co-chaired the regeneration action plan Board 'Building Buchan New Beginnings' and the joint Strategic Planning Committee for the city and shire. For 6 years she served on the East Areas Board of Scottish Natural Heritage. Alison has forged an impressive reputation, particularly in the areas of transport, economic development and the environment, having chaired the council's Infrastructure Services Committee for 8 years. She is a keen European and played a key role in the North Sea Commission as chair of its Sustainable Development Group. At a local level she has been a strong ally of young people in their campaigns for better facilities and a stronger voice in decision making.
