DISAPPOINTING THAT NOT ALL FARES ARE TO BE LOWERED - MCINNES12.00.00am GMT Mon 16th Nov 2009 Commenting on the news from First ScotRail that the price of their 'unregulated' fares will not be cut or frozen from January next year, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said: "It is disappointing that not all of First ScotRail's fares will be cut or frozen. "People will struggle to understand why, when inflation is at nearly zero and annual wages aren't rising, the price of some train tickets continues to rise. "This comes hot on the heels of the announcement from East Coast main line that one of their first steps since taking over will be to hike fares up. This is simply unforgivable. "Train operators and the Government must do everything in their power to keep rail fares low in order to compete with air and car travel." Ends.
