RIDICULOUS FARES ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO USE THEIR CARS12.00.00am GMT Tue 3rd Nov 2009 Commenting on the news that the UK's first £1000 rail ticket is available, between Newquay and Kyle of Lochalsh Liberal Democrat Transport spokesman Alison McInnes said: "We are being encouraged to take our holidays in the UK during the recession, but this kind of rail fare makes that impossible for most people. "This fare is a symptom of a problem with the wider rail pricing system. We need to make that fairer." Liberal Democrat MSP John Farquhar Munro, who represents Kyle of Lochalsh added: "This is absolutely ridiculous. You could go round the world for that price. "It's no wonder people in my constituency and across the country are using their cars when rail prices are this high. Ends.
