TRANSPORT STAFF ABUSE DISAPPOINTING AND DAMAGING TO PUBLIC TRANSPORT NETWORK

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 9th Oct 2009

Alison McInnes, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson has condemned those who abuse public transport staff and says fare dodgers are damaging Scotland's public transport network.

McInnes said:

"There is obviously no excuse for abusing transport staff. I hope those who cause staff emotional or physical harm are brought to justice.

"The issue of fare dodgers is worrying, as every passenger who doesn't pay the fare denies valuable funds to public transport improvements in Scotland.

"If we really crack down on fare dodging we can make the much needed changes to transport in this country. With everyone's co-operation, we can create a public transport network fit for the 21st century and one that Scotland can truly be proud of."
