McInnes Requests Interim Measures from Post Office for Mintlaw

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 24th Sep 2009

North East Scotland MSP Alison McInnes has reacted to the temporary closure of Mintlaw Post Office by writing to the Post Office Consultation Team, asking for an interim mobile service to be put in place, given that the nearest Post Office is in Maud, some 5 miles away.

Mrs McInnes said:

"I understand that the Post Office branch on South Street in Mintlaw has had to be closed temporarily for an unspecified period of time for health and safety reasons. But I am concerned that the nearest Post Office, in Maud, is over 5 miles away and the local bus connections are few and far between.

"I have written to the Post Office Consultation Team asking if they can provide an interim mobile service to the village during the closure.

"If this is not a cost effective arrangement I have urged the Post Office to consider making a financial contribution to Central Buchan Dial A Bus, as the residents of Mintlaw will be reliant on this service to access Post Office services."
