MCINNES CALLS FOR ELGIN FLOOD ALLEVIATION SCHEME TO BE FAST TRACKED

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 7th Sep 2009

Liberal Democrat Local Government spokesperson and North East MSP Alison McInnes has called on the SNP Government to fast track its consideration of the Flood Alleviation Scheme for Elgin following major disruptions in the area as a result of recent heavy rainfall.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:

"I want to see SNP Ministers fast track their consideration of the Flood Alleviation Scheme for Elgin.

"Recent chaos caused by heavy rainfall in the area has shown just how important this scheme is to the local community.

"SNP Ministers, however, have done little to bring this scheme forward since it was lodged on the 18 December last year. This is a delay of more than nine months.

"People in Elgin have faced the problem of severe flooding to their homes and community for many years.

"Ministers should be doing everything they can to bring the implementation of this scheme forward as quickly as possible."
