RAIL INVESTMENT WELCOME IN EFFORT TO MEET CLIMATE CHANGE TARGETS - McINNES

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 17th Aug 2009

Commenting on the announcement of a programme of railway improvements in Scotland from Network Rail worth £1billion, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"I welcome this much needed investment in Scotland's transport infrastructure.

"This sort of investment in our railways is vital if we are to meet the ambitious emissions targets set out the recent Climate Change Bill.

"It will also help the economies of Glasgow and Edinburgh in weathering the current economic storm.

"It is important to remember, however, that investment is needed in all of Scotland's railways and not just the lines in the Central Belt."
