CLIMATE CHANGE BILL REDUCED TO 'FOLLOW THE LEADER LEGISLATION' - McINNES

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Jun 2009

Commenting on the publication of the Scottish Government's delivery plan for the Climate Change Bill, Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"The Scottish Government promised Scotland would lead the world in efforts to combat climate change. Instead the Climate Change Bill has been diluted and diminished into 'follow the leader' legislation.

"Ambition has been replaced by ambiguity. Liberal Democrats are alone in calling for tough interim targets that will set Scotland on the road to a low carbon future.

"If the Scottish Government is serious about tackling climate change then the "wait and see" approach is simply not credible. Backing Liberal Democrat calls for 42% cut in carbon emissions by 2020 would ensure Scotland leads and not just follows."
