MINISTERS WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN FOR BEING TIMID ON CLIMATE CHANGE BILL - McINNES

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th May 2009

Commenting after speaking in a debate in the Scottish Parliament on the Climate Change Bill, Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"This Bill needs real teeth if it is effectively to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing the world today. So far, however, it is so lacking in early action that there is no certainty that its end target can be met.

"Liberal Democrats are determined that the Climate Change Bill should set a global example to other nations. That is why we need a road map for getting to the ambitious target for 2050.

"The SNP Government must renew their ditched manifesto commitment for 3 per cent statutory annual emissions reductions starting now, not just after 2020.

"Ministers will not be forgiven if they shy away from taking bold action to tackle climate change."
