SNP COMMITMENT TO TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE UNRAVELLING- McINNES

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 27th May 2009

Commenting on figures showing that the SNP Government is failing to hit its own target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"This is further evidence that the SNP's commitment to tackling climate change is starting to unravel.

"These figures show that Ministers have failed to meet their own targets for business travel and building emissions.

"On top of this, they missed a golden opportunity during the Committee meeting yesterday to introduce scientifically credible interim emissions targets into the Government's Climate Change Bill.

"Given the global consequences of failing to tackle climate change and all the hot air from Ministers about "world-leading" legislation, this is really disappointing."
