DECISION TO SHELVE TRAM LINE DISAPPOINTING - MCINNES12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 24th Apr 2009 Commenting on the news that plans for a multi-million pound spur line to Edinburgh's main tram route have been shelved due to concerns over funding during the economic downturn, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said: "It is disappointing that economic downturn has led to this decision. Edinburgh City Council must look at bringing this line back as soon as the economic outlook improves. "The introduction of a world class public transport system will be a useful tool in speeding up economic recovery in Scotland's capital. "It is unfortunate, however, that shelving line 1b means that we will miss out on the fixed price for the tram system if this line is reintroduced at a later stage."
