McInnes Leads Debate on Road Safety12.00.00am GMT Mon 1st Dec 2008 North East MSP and Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes will, this week, lead a debate in the Scottish Parliament calling for local organisations and national authorities to work together to improve road safety for young drivers. Nearly 100 people aged between 17 and 25 in the Grampian area were killed or seriously injured on Scotland's roads in the last five years. Commenting, Mrs McInnes said: "Nearly 100 young people were killed or seriously injured on Grampian's roads in the last five years. "That is why I am leading a debate in the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of this serious and often tragic issue. "The Institute of Advanced Motorists conducted extensive research into why so many young people lose their lives on Scotland's roads. IAM's report 'Safe Drivers are Made Not Born' contains practical recommendations for local authorities and Government to implement. "I want to build cross-party consensus around these recommendations. Schools, young people, road agencies and local and national authorities should work together in order to introduce these measures and improve road safety for all our young drivers." ENDS
