Lib Dems call for Scotrail contract to be renegotiated

3.09.00pm GMT Mon 24th Nov 2008

Commenting on the announcement that First ScotRail are to increase train fares on many of their routes by 6 per cent from January next year, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes said:

"This is not a good time to be increasing train fares. The Scottish Government are supposed to be helping people out of cars and into public transport.

"Given the current economic climate Ministers should intervene and renegotiate ScotRail's contract. Ministers must look seriously at freezing train fares in Scotland. This would help Scotland's already hard pressed families and commuters."
