McInnes demands answers about Forth Crossing funding

11.52.44am GMT Thu 18th Sep 2008

Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has demanded the Scottish Government explain how the new Forth crossing will be funded.

Yesterday, the Transport Minister finally confirmed that the new crossing would not be subject to tolls.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:

"I'm glad that the Government has finally ended the uncertainty of the last year and confirmed that the new Forth crossing won't be tolled. This is good news for the business community who are already struggling with high fuel prices.

"However, this announcement does not answer the more difficult question of how the bridge will be paid for. After eighteen months in government, ministers appear to have absolutely no idea how they will fund the most iconic infrastructure project in Scotland."
