Action not rhetoric on green transport - McInnes

10.01.26am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 14th Aug 2008

Commenting on the Scottish Government's announcement that Scotland will join European leaders in developing innovative transport initiatives to encourage more Scots out of their cars, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes said:

"Although I welcome the Scottish Government's commitment to encouraging Scots out of their cars in favour of greener alternatives, it is no substitute for the more comprehensive funding that was previously available to all local authorities to support greener travel.

"This funding was lost during the SNP's last Budget round. Once again, the Scottish Government is quick to talk up its commitment to sustainable green transport, but slow to back this up with the real action and funding necessary."
