Lib Dems support "Change Your World" campaign10.17.51am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 30th Jun 2008 Scottish Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has given her support to the Change Your World campaign urging people to reduce road traffic by 10 per cent. The campaign run by the sustainable transport charity Sustrans encourages individuals to sign a petition pledging to swap one car journey between the 30 June and 5 July and walk, cycle or car share instead. The campaign highlights that nearly a quarter of all car journeys are less than two miles long. Commenting, Mrs McInnes said: "It is much better for the environment for people to walk cycle or use public transport. If everyone was to swap one car journey a week for one of these alternative methods, we could reduce road traffic in Britain by 10 per cent a year. "I have already signed up to the campaign and I strongly urge everyone who uses a car for short journeys to mark Change Your World Week by making a pledge to leave the car at home. "It takes only small changes like this to make a big difference to congestion on our roads. Not only will we help the environment but given rocketing fuel prices, we'll also ease the pressure on our purses."
