Aberdeenshire MSP Alison McInnes has today tabled a motion in Parliament congratulating the Banff Academy Young Engineers Club on their recent success at the 2008 Celebration of Engineering in Glasgow.

The Academy won the award for Best Club of the Year at the event, which was attended by 60 clubs from around the country.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes said: "I am delighted to see a local school succeeding nationally in such an important field. The Celebration of Engineering saw clubs from across Scotland showcasing their engineering activities, so for Banff Academy to claim this prestigious prize is an outstanding achievement.

"The Young Engineers Clubs play an important role in promoting engineering, science and technology to young people across the country. I hope that the Academy's success will encourage more local pupils to take up the challenge to become one of the next generation of Scotland's world class engineers."
