SNP 'poor custodians' of AWPR - Lib Dems

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 17th Apr 2008

Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has demanded that Ministers take action to move forward construction of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Bypass.

The Government has announced the two Reporters who will conduct the public local inquiry on the AWPR route and the date of the pre-inquiry meeting.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:

"The SNP has been a poor custodian of the AWPR. When they took over handling the project, people in the north-east were expecting to be able to drive on the road by 2011. Now, with the SNP at the helm, there is confusion over the funding and limited details about the timescale for construction. It looks unlikely that the AWPR will be finished before 2013."

"The Scottish Government must ensure that this key infrastructure project is delivered as soon as possible. The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route will ease congestion and is absolutely vital for the economy of the North-East.
