North East Scotland MSP Alison McInnes has praised Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for Gordon, Conor McKay, after he scooped the 'Member of the Year Award' at Holyrood.

Mrs McInnes today tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament praising the 16 year-old Inverurie resident later today.

Mrs McInnes said: "Conor has been an outstanding MSYP. Rarely have I encountered a young person with so much enthusiasm and such a commitment to changing society for the better. In an age of alleged apathy, it is encouraging to see someone with Conor's drive recognising that politics does make a difference."

Mrs McInnes has written to Conor congratulating him on his success.

More information on the Scottish Youth Parliament is available from the SYP on 0131 313 2488.

The text of Mrs McInnes' motion is as follows:

Alison McInnes (North East Scotland) (LD): That the Parliament commends Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament for their ongoing work; endorses the SYP's belief that "young people in Scotland have the right to have their views listened to and acted upon"; notes the hard work and enthusiasm of Conor McKay, MSYP for Gordon, and congratulates him on winning the Member of the Year award.
