McInnes decries disparities as Scottish Society for Autism turns 40

North East Scotland MSP Alison McInnes today congratulated the Scottish Society for Autism for its ongoing work, but drew attention to ongoing disparities in service provision.

Having signed a motion in the Scottish Parliament, recognising the Society's work, Mrs McInnes said: "The Scottish Society for Autism has been active since 1968, during which time they have contributed immeasurably to improve the support people with autism spectrum disorders receive."

However the Liberal Democrat MSP has spoken in Parliament regarding autism, and identified significant differences in the provision of North East council areas, saying:

"I am concerned that Aberdeen City Council has reduced the available funding for those specific services. The effect is that, in my region, a matter of miles can determine what support is available for people. That is despite the fact that Aberdeenshire Council deals with significantly more people with ASD than Aberdeen City Council deals with."
