Local parliamentarians Alison McInnes MSP and Malcolm Bruce MP are seeking clarification as to how the Inveramsay Bridge upgrade might be affected by proposals to dual the A96 between Aberdeen and Inverness.
As part of a £60 billion strategy to improve infrastructure, the Scottish Government has claimed that it will dual the A96 between Aberdeen and Inverness over the next two decades, starting with the section between Inverness and Nairn.
Following the publication of the Scottish Government's Infrastructure Investment Plan, the two Scottish Liberal Democrats have written to Transport Scotland to seek clarification.
Malcolm Bruce, MP for Gordon, commented: "Whilst we of course welcome the Scottish Government's recognition that improvements to the A96 are necessary, it is important that the Inveramsay project is prioritised.
"There are questions to be answered as to how the long-term objective to dual the 100-mile route will impact upon the immediate need to upgrade the Inveramsay Bridge, particularly given that the current designs for the bridge show a single-carriageway. Presumably the designs will need to provide for a dual carriageway, but I hope that will not delay it."
Alison McInnes, MSP for the North East, added: "The projects sound good, but it is still unclear as to how much of this spending list will be affordable.
"This wish-list must not be allowed to jeopardise or delay this much needed project in the short-term."
