Commenting on environmental statistics published today showing a 7 per cent increase in CO2 emissions from the public sector, Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes said:
"The public sector should be leading by example on climate change. The Scottish Government and its agencies have a key role to play in meeting our ambitious climate change targets.
"Just last weekend I revealed how contrary it was that Transport Scotland had increased the number of domestic flights they took in the last 12 months.
"We need public bodies to be doing the opposite and doing all they can to cut emissions.
"Transport Scotland, for example could make a worthwhile contribution to reducing Scotland's carbon footprint if they cut domestic flights, especially ones between Scotland and London."
