Commenting on reports that COSLA will have to impose a pay deal on council workers, North East MSP and Local Government Spokesperson, Alison McInnes said:
"Most people accept there has to be restraint in public sector pay but the negotiations between the Councils and the unions have not been creative enough.
"Top pay in councils should stand still while the lowest paid workers should be permitted an inflation increase.
"Any percentage increase negotiation will put proportionately more cash in the pocket of a council manager while school dinner ladies, janitors and bin men will benefit much less.
"We know there are really rough times ahead. Those with the broadest shoulders should take a heavier weight."
