Commenting on the publication of Grampian road safety statistics, Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson, Alison McInnes said:
"The rise in the number of road deaths in Grampian is deeply concerning.
"What is of equally worrying however is the number of young people putting themselves at risk on our roads.
"The revelation that 96% of seriously injured young casualties, including passengers, were in a vehicle driven by a young driver, strengthens the case for a targeted educational campaign with this age group.
"The Scottish Government must redouble its efforts on rural road safety.
"Liberal Democrats have consistently argued for a sustained education campaign, more traffic police on rural roads and a national pass plus scheme for young drivers."
