Figures given to the Liberal Democrats show that Scotland's local authorities have failed to invest in green vehicles as part of their fleet.
According to figures revealed under Freedom of Information, Scotland's local councils have bought just 11 environmentally friendly vehicles in the last 5 years.
There are only 17 environmentally friendly- meaning electric, hybrid or cooking oil powered- vehicles in use by local authorities.
Only 4 councils use any green vehicles: Aberdeenshire, Dundee, Edinburgh and Moray.
Scotland's councils use over 16,000 vehicles, which dwarfs the number held centrally by the Scottish Government. The Government owns 212 vehicles, of which 24 are hybrid powered.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Transport and Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes said:
"Scotland's councils have a significant purchasing power. They should use this influence to set a good example and begin the roll out of this exciting green technology.
"Local authorities have had every opportunity over the last 5 years to invest in greener vehicles. Technology has improved and the cost of hybrid or electric vehicles has dropped significantly.
"However, they have only bought eleven environmentally sound vehicles in the last 5 years.
"This is not good enough.
"As they renew their fleet, councils should invest in greener vehicles wherever possible."
