Figures released showing passengers using Inverurie Station have soared in the past two years have been welcomed by Aberdeenshire MSP, Alison McInnes.
Mrs McInnes, who is the Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson said:
"During the week there are 22 trains passing through Inverurie and being very well used, however on a Sunday there are only 5 return services.
"At the moment if you want to catch a train to Aberdeen on a Sunday you had better take a flask and be prepared for a long wait! The first train to Aberdeen on a Sunday is 11.47 and the last train back is at 21.00, that's a pretty dismal service. It doesn't serve peoples needs, whether they be commuting to work or travelling for leisure.
"Last month I wrote to the Managing Director of Scotrail urging him to take action to improve the Sunday service. I am pleased to have had an assurance that Scotrail are now actively pursuing this, but I will be keeping up the pressure."
