Commenting on further travel disruption that continues across the UK because of volcanic ash continuing to drifting from Iceland and how train companies can capitalise on this, Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:
"Despite the continued travel disruption across the UK, train companies must be commended for working really hard to make sure that as far as possible Britain has kept moving.
"This is a great opportunity for train companies to show the public that taking the train is a great green alternative for travel.
"If train companies get it right, after the dust settles, train companies should have won over new passengers especially amongst business travellers.
"To do that they must ensure that trains are on time and reliable and are they comfortable and clean for passengers.
"This is also a good opportunity for train companies to offer value prices on tickets, as will happen in France next week, to get people out of planes and into trains permanently.
"Providing good value fares for passengers will also encourage people to stick with greener travel alternatives for business trips to London and even beyond.
"This situation is an appropriate time for Cross Country trains to reconsider the decision regarding its catering options Aberdeen southwards.
"Available catering on long journeys would encourage more people to take the train as it would be much more comfortable.
