Local Liberal Democrat MSP Alison McInnes has slammed the Tories and SNP for voting down a transitional rates relief scheme to help Scottish hotels hit by rates increases.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"Today we revealed that Scottish hotels will have to sell a further 35,000 nights stay to cover the £3 million cost of the rates tax rise.
"Their competitors in England and Wales are being helped by the UK Government's transitional relief scheme, but Scottish hotels have been left to fend for themselves.
"It is perverse in the extreme that we debate tourism in Scotland, but the Government refuses to accept that massive tax bill increases will have an impact on the industry without any support to phase them in."
