Commenting on the announcement that flood damage sustained in late 2009 will cost Aberdeenshire Council nearly £4 million, Liberal Democrat Local Government spokesperson and MSP for the north east, Alison McInnes said:
"Aberdeenshire Council is already suffering from the unfair funding settlement handed down by the Scottish Government.
"A combination of coping with the extreme winter weather and now this £4 million bill to put right flood damage could stretch the council's budget to breaking point.
"The Government's Bellwin scheme is simply not up to the job. It needs to be reviewed as a matter of urgency so that councils like Aberdeenshire can access emergency funding to help them deal with this kind of situation."
