Local Aberdeenshire MSP, Alison McInnes, has been campaigning Royal Mail in response to Ellon residents' request for more Post boxes. An area has been identified locally as having insufficient provision for the residents, many of whom are disabled, elderly or frail.
Royal Mail, however, have responded that there is a fair saturation of post boxes within Ellon, currently offering ample capacity for the amount of mail posted in the area.
Mrs McInnes commented:
"Royal Mail is letting down Ellon residents by failing to respond to local need. I have been in contact with Ellon Community Council who agrees there is a need for a post box to be sited in the Park Road area.
"The population within Ellon has increased quite dramatically over recent years and the current post boxes do not adequately cover the residential areas. Royal Mail point out that there are two post boxes within 500 metres of Park Road; a distance which is very restrictive for many residents.
"I would like to see Royal Mail respond to local need and consider all options available, given that post boxes are more likely to be used in residential areas. Royal Mail has admitted that some post boxes may not be ideally situated but they will not be re-sited."
