Speaking after securing unanimous approval of her amendment to a Parliamentary motion on concessionary travel, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesman and MSP for the North East Alison McInnes said:
"This is a terrific result. The Minister has agreed to consider extending the concessionary travel scheme to older and disabled people using community transport in rural areas. I look forward to seeing the outcome of this.
"Elderly and disabled rural residents can get a poor deal on public transport. They get hit disproportionately hard by bus fare increases and service cuts.
"I want to see those on lower level disability living allowance become eligible for concessionary travel. Proper consideration must also be given to bringing rural community transport into the scheme.
"Addressing these issues would make a huge difference to people trying to live independent lives in more rural areas."
