Commenting on road casualty statistics published by the Scottish Government today, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesman Alison McInnes said:
"The general downward trend in injuries and fatalities since 1998 is to be welcomed. This makes the rise in casualties on the roads in Grampian all the more concerning.
"These figures should give the Transport Secretary pause for reflection. Direct action is needed to target driver education. Safe drivers are made, not born. Passing the driving test is only the beginning and all drivers need to consider their ongoing improvement.
"We also need to help young people. Road safety should be integrated into the core school curriculum so that the drivers of the future can be safer."
