Commenting on news that 260 jobs at bus-builder Alexander Dennis are at risk because of a fall in demand for new vehicles, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesman Alison McInnes said:
"I am very concerned to hear about the threat to jobs at this long established firm.
"Under successive Liberal Democrat Transport Ministers bus routes and patronage grew fuelling demand for new buses.
"Since the SNP took office they have abolished the bus route development grant and turned bus services into a Cinderella service through a series of cuts. It is sadly little wonder that Alexander Dennis workers are facing this threat.
"The Minister often boasts to parliament what a train buff he is and how often he travels by train. Sadly no-one in this government is championing bus services. Buses are the most flexible public transport option and for many people the best option. The Minister must reconsider his support for the bus industry."
