Alison McInnes draws her ideal home for shelter
Alison signed up to the housing and homelessness charity's call when Shelter Scotland's Countdown to 2012 campaign visited the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday, September 16, 2009.
She joins 22 other MSP's and over 2,000 people across Scotland who have supported the campaign, as well as celebrities, Dennis the Menace, comedians Karen Dunbar and Greg Hemphill, Rory Bremner, former Scottish international rugby player Kenny Logan, actor and singer Marti Pellow.
The charity's campaign is calling on Scottish Ministers to amend the recently published draft Scottish budget to make it a 'Budget for Homes' and to invest enough money to help build 10,000 affordable rented homes a year.
Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, housing and homelessness charity, said: "Resources are tight but housing ticks all the right boxes: housing people who desperately need a home, providing a fiscal stimulus, sustaining jobs, and helping to meet the 2012 homelessness commitment. There has never been a more urgent time for a 'Budget for Homes'."
Alison McInnes MSP said:
"It is recognised that Shelter played a key role in the development of the Homeless Task Force, which led to a legal commitment to give all homeless people the right to a home by 2012.
"Shelter Scotland work at the front line as the biggest charity working with housing in Scotland, offering up to date advice and information.
"As politicians, we must do more to ensure that everybody has access to affordable accommodation."
During the campaign, events have been held in Blairgowrie, East Lothian, Shetland, Inverurie, Glasgow and East Kilbride. The campaign also features online at scotland.shelter.org.uk/campaign and on social networking sites, where people can sign up and put pressure on politicians to build more homes.
