Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has secured a commitment from the Finance Secretary to engage with Transport Scotland to improve public transport facilities at the new Forth Crossing.
Mrs McInnes raised the issue of lack of support from Transport Scotland for developing 'park & choose' measures at Halbeath and Rosyth whilst questioning John Swinney at today's Transport Committee.
Park and Choose stations would allow people to switch from cars to public transport at either side of the crossing.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"I am glad that my concerns have been taken on board by the Finance Minister.
"It is absolutely vital that proper public transport facilities are incorporated into the new Forth Crossing right from the start.
"This would ensure new travel patterns are bedded down and will assist with the traffic management necessary to tie the new crossing into the existing A90.
"Making sure these facilities are in place right from the start offers excellent value for money and would help in reaching the target of a 42% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020.
"Ministers must now raise these concerns with Transport Scotland as a mater of urgency."
