Commenting on official figures showing that the death toll on Scotland's roads is at its lowest for almost 60 years, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:
"Whilst these figures are encouraging, there is still a great deal of work needed to be done in lowering road deaths, particularly in rural areas.
"Ministers must not lose sight of the fact that safe drivers are made, not born. Liberal Democrats want to see road safety fully integrated into the school curriculum.
"We must do more to educate people about the risks of speed and the dangers of rural roads if we are to make sure that the number of road deaths continues to drop."
