ROAD SAFETY FRAMEWORK OVERDUE AND LACKING IN DETAIL - McINNES

Commenting on the publication of the Scottish Government's Road Safety Framework, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"Safe drivers are made, not born. Ministers need to fully integrate road safety into the core school curriculum so that the drivers of the future can be both slower and safer.

"This report is long overdue and lacking in detail in many key areas. We have waited two years for Ministers to bring forward measures to improve road safety and all they have announced is a framework.

"Whilst many of its proposals are suitably ambitious, there is a resounding lack of detail to back them up or explain how they will be implemented.

"Much greater emphasis is needed on educating young people about the risks of speed, particularly on our rural roads."
