Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson Alison McInnes has welcomed Transform Scotland's report into the regeneration of the Ayr-Stranraer railway line.
The report published today (Wednesday) outlines a range of proposals to regenerate the South West railway line and deliver economic benefits to Ayrshire and Galloway through increased tourism. It also outlines the benefits of better connectivity for the South West of Scotland to the Central Belt.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"Liberal Democrats welcome this robust and detailed study. It underlines the value of good transport links to Scotland's regional economy.
"Many of the aims outlined in this report are low cost and achievable. Regenerating the Ayr- Stranraer line would provide massive benefit to the local area in terms of increased tourism and leisure travel.
"A better timetable for this route would also help to tackle climate change by encouraging more people out of their cars and onto a train.
"This report shows that a small investment could reap large rewards not just for the South West but for the whole of Scotland."
