Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has urged the Scottish Government to prioritise investment in cycling as part of the transport budget.
Mrs McInnes' call comes as the Scottish Government publishes its Cycling Action Plan with an introduction by the Transport Minister stating that by 2020 10 per cent of all journeys will be by bike.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"Liberal Democrats fully support the ambition for a step change in journeys by bike. But investment in cycling has dropped a gear since the SNP came into power.
"The Transport Committee has twice recommended that Ministers must prioritise spending on cycling. So far this Government has ignored these calls.
"The Minister's words will be nothing more than window dressing unless his Government is willing to back them up with investment."
