Commenting on the EU talks concerning Britain's opt-out from the Working Time Directive, which collapsed this week Alison McInnes, MSP North East Scotland said:
"This is really good news for the fire service and the communities reliant on retained services.
"I am pleased to see that retained firefighters will not have their working hours restricted to 48 per week which would have been the case had the Working Time Directive come into force.
"Our rural communities are dependant on a retained fire service and I am pleased to say that the threat of a reduced service has been lifted.
"Liberal Democrats led the campaign to keep the opt out and will continue to keep up the pressure as the European Commission consults on the way forward."
