Alison McInnes, MSP for North East Scotland applauds Aberdeen City and Shire who are holding a week of activities promoting active and sustainable travel. The "get-about - Spring into Action" week which runs until 2 May is packed with activities for everyone, encouraging the use of environmentally sustainable modes of transport.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"The benefits of sustainable travel are becoming more obvious in the current economic climate but we must not forget the long term contribution to helping combat climate change.
"The "Get-About" promotion is a chance for everyone to share in these benefits. Exploring the new cycle routes opening in Kingswells and Peterhead, dumping the car and using the new train services in Inverurie, or learning to drive more efficiently are all ways we can contribute to the week.
"I recently took part in an eco -driving challenge set up by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland.
Using eco-driving techniques, I managed to save 15 per cent on fuel and this has completely changed by driving habits.
"I would encourage everyone to check out the events happening this week as small changes can make huge differences to our climate".
