Speaking after her visit to Ola Oils, a family-run firm in Inverurie, Mrs McInnes said: "Scottish Food Fortnight is an opportunity to recognise the great contribution of locally produced food to the Scottish economy and to our nation's regional diversity.

"The success of Aberdeenshire producers such as Ola Oils demonstrate that there is a demand for local produce which is consistently the very highest quality food and drink in the shops."

Connie Sorrie, who runs Ola Oils with her husband John, said: "The most loyal market for a local product is a local market. As the economy slows we depend on this loyalty and the exceptional quality of our product."

Mrs McInnes also visited Donald Russell gourmet meat suppliers alongside new Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott.

Scottish Food Fortnight begins this Saturday, 6 September.
