McInnes fighting for disabled passengers

June 10, 2008 5:09 PM

Commenting after voting against proposals to disband the Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland (MACS), which represents disabled people, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes said:

"Today's Committee meeting should have been a chance for the Transport Minister to reassure MSPs that his government was prepared to listen to disabled passengers. He failed to offer these assurances. I was not persuaded by his explanation of why his government was trying to scrap this committee and ignoring the advice of the key groups that represent disabled people in Scotland. I do not believe that scrapping MACS would improve the lot of disabled people.

"I am delighted that the campaign against disbanding this committee has moved forward. It's really important that we ensure that disabled passengers have a strong voice."
