Cooperative working key to cutting drink drive limit - McInnes

March 12, 2008 1:13 PM

Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has urged the Justice Secretary to work with the Westminster Government to cut the drink driving limit.

Liberal Democrats believe that the limit should be reduced from 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood to 50 micrograms.

Commenting ahead of a debate into drink driving, Mrs McInnes said:

"710 Scots were involved in drink driving accidents between 1995 and 2005. Liberal Democrats believe that reducing the drink driving limit will save lives.

"As this is a reserved issue it is critical that the administrations in Holyrood and Westminster work together. I have lodged questions in the Scottish Parliament to reveal what discussions the Justice Secretary has held with his Westminster counterpart about drink driving.

"Liberal Democrats north and south of the border will continue the campaign for a reduction in the drink drive limit."
