Alison McInnes questions Government's commitment to dualling A9

March 7, 2008 5:00 PM

Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has condemned the SNP for the confusion surrounding the future of the A9 and questioned their commitment, made during the election, to dualling the A9.

The Transport Minister has announced that he has instructed Transport Scotland to progress proposals to dual an 18 mile stretch of the A9 between Perth and Pitlochry.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:

"The Transport Minister is not taking a 'major step forward' in dualling the A9. He is merely confirming that he will honour the commitment made by the previous Executive to upgrade the most dangerous sections of the A9.

"In opposition senior SNP MSPs claimed that the SNP had 'led the campaign' to dual the A9. Yet, now they are in Government, the SNP is desperately back pedalling away from this commitment."
