Alison McInnes today criticised Westminster plans to hold a brief six week consultation on post office closures, limiting the opportunity for smaller communities to make representations.
She said, "The Angus consultation, due to start 8 May, will give residents only six weeks in which to participate. This limits the opportunity to obtain representative opinions from residents and may give the impression of a fait accompli. It is important that the government ensures that the consultation is genuine, rather than a PR exercise."
Angus Councillor David May added, "These Post Offices are the lifeblood of many of our communities. When the Post Offices goes it can have knock on effects with other businesses folding as well."
