Liberal Democrats Pledge 1,000 Community Police to Make Local Streets Safer

April 29, 2007 12:00 AM

Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate Alison McInnes today announced the party's plans for improving safety and cutting crime with 1,000 additional community police officers.

Announcing the plan today, McInnes said:

"The Liberal Democrats want to recruit 1,000 extra community police officers to cut crime and make local communities safer.

"We would give enough funding for the police to provide at least two additional community police officers in every council ward in Banff & Buchan to provide visible local policing.

"For areas like Banff & Buchan that would make a real difference in cutting problems of anti social behaviour, and keeping our streets safe.

"These will be dedicated local officers, known and trusted in their community.

"Links to community groups such as neighbourhood watch would be improved by providing a dedicated mobile phone number for local officers.

"Community Police Officers would provide email updates to residents on law and order issues in their neighbourhood."
