Scottish Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has called for clarification of the Scottish Government's plans to stabilise traffic levels in Scotland. The Minister for Transport recently committed to maintaining traffic at 2006 levels for all modes of transport, but has given no details of how this will be achieved.
Commenting, Mrs McInnes said:
"The growth of road traffic is damaging to our economy, environment, and quality of life. I have written to Stewart Stevenson to ask how he intends to tackle this problem.
"Scrapping tolls on the Forth Road Bridge is expected to increase traffic levels by 20 per cent, but the Government has refused to acknowledge this. Neither has the Minister confirmed if the Government will adhere to the previous administration's ambitious traffic reduction targets.
"Warm words are not enough to address the unsustainable growth in traffic levels in Scotland. The SNP must back up their claims by producing a detailed plan of action immediately."
